Welcome!

Thanks for joining me for the first of my blog posts! Let me start by introducing myself.

I am a self-taught sewer and knitter, who’s been fascinated with fashion since I was old enough to dress myself. I dabble in projects of all kinds, but my passion is making my own clothes. My personal style is decidedly eclectic, which results in projects that are influenced by vintage, classic, and modern styles.

I also enjoy pursuing many different sewing techniques. I appreciate the importance of learning classic skills like tailoring and pattern drafting, and do my best to expand my knowledge on these subjects. I just as often find myself breaking all the rules though, and trying something I’ve cooked up on my own, just for fun.

Of course, this also means that if you join me in my creative adventures, you’ll witness not only my successes, but my challenges and mistakes too. That’s okay! In fact I think that’s kind of the point. When you pursue hobbies on your own without professional instruction, making mistakes is how you learn. So let’s learn together!

Something I’ve also come to love about sewing, is that there are many different ways to do everything. I like to try as many methods as possible, so by no means is the way I do something the only way. In fact, I would love to hear from you about how you do things too.

Together we’ll also explore how to find inspiration for projects, and how to plan them and stay organized throughout the process. Of course I’ll also share any helpful tools and resources I have come to rely on, or that I find along the way.

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the fabric I have lined up for my fall and winter projects.

I imagine you’ve probably come here with you’re own hopes for what you would find as well. Maybe you’re a beginner who is looking for some guidance; maybe you have years of experience, and are just looking for some new ideas; and maybe still you have never sewn or knit a day in your life, and simply want to live vicariously through a hobbyist. In any case, I’ll do my best to offer you content that you find interesting, educational, inspiring, and of course fun!

I think the only thing better then pursuing a hobby you enjoy, is getting the chance to share it with others. So sit back and relax, and join me on our first project together.

Happy sewing!

~Amanda
